Dr. Ryder Reed is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Nebraska Spine + Pain Center in Omaha. He completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic, followed by a fellowship at one of the nation’s top spine programs in Louisville, Kentucky. His path into medicine began during his undergraduate years at Augustana University, where he majored in biology and Spanish, and continued at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha. There, a research grant in the Department of Orthopedics under Dr. McClellan gave him his first real exposure to spine care, and to the kind of relationships surgeons build with patients dealing with serious pain and disability. That combination of hands-on mechanical problem solving and patient connection is what drew him to orthopedics and, specifically, to spine surgery.
Dr. Reed grew up on the Nebraska side of South Sioux City, the son of powersport dealership owners, before his family relocated to Luverne, Minnesota, for his high school years. Watching his parents run a business and work with people from all walks of life shaped how he approaches patients today. In his clinical practice, he places a strong emphasis on communication: understanding exactly what a patient needs help with, explaining their condition in terms they can relate to, and tailoring treatment recommendations to each patient’s specific goals, whether that means returning to yoga or being able to stand through a daughter’s wedding.
Now practicing in Omaha, Dr. Reed and his family are glad to be back in the region that first drew him into medicine and mentorship. He is married with two young children, and outside the clinic he stays active with his family, has taken up woodworking since the pandemic, and is steadily working through projects in their new home.
