OMAHA, Neb. – Nebraska Spine + Pain Center has announced that Dr. Ryder Reed, a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, has joined its team of physicians. Dr. Reed completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Mayo Clinic and a spine surgery fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky, and will now see patients in Omaha and the surrounding region.
Dr. Reed grew up on the Nebraska side of South Sioux City, where his parents owned a powersport dealership. After moving to Luverne, Minnesota, he spent much of his time around the dealership, getting to know customers from all walks of life. He credits that experience with shaping how he relates to patients today.
Dr. Reed studied biology and Spanish at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, then attended Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha. At Creighton, he first got involved in orthopedics, working on a research grant that introduced him to spine care and the doctor-patient relationships that come with it.
He went on to complete a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at Mayo Clinic, followed by a spine surgery fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky, one of the top programs in the country. He has since returned to Omaha to begin practicing at Nebraska Spine + Pain Center.
Dr. Reed starts every appointment by asking patients how he can help. From there, he works to make sure they understand their condition before discussing treatment options. He ties those options to what patients want to get back to doing, whether that’s returning to yoga or standing comfortably through a family event.
“I think communication is the key,” said Dr. Reed. “If you don’t have good communication with the patients, the rest of it is going to be hard to overcome. Once they understand their condition, then we can start talking about the next options and what’s in line with their goals.”
He lives in the Omaha area with his wife and their two young children. In his free time, Dr. Reed does woodworking, a hobby he picked up during the COVID-19 pandemic, and he’s a former competitive powerlifter.
“My family and I are happy to be back in the area,” said Dr. Reed. “I love taking care of the people, and I’m glad to be part of the team here at Nebraska Spine + Pain Center.”
Dr. Reed is accepting new patients. Request your appointment today on the Nebraska Spine + Pain Center website or give them a call at (402) 496-7766.
